A shared family calendar app, built from scratch.
We designed and built a shared calendar app that keeps a whole family in sync.
The challenge
Coordinating a busy family across phones, paper calendars, and group texts left everyone half-informed. Events got double-booked, someone always missed a pickup, and there was no single place the whole household could trust. Off-the-shelf apps were either too complicated or did not fit how this family lived.
What we built
- A shared calendar everyone in the household can see and update
- Simple event creation that takes seconds, even one-handed
- A clear week view that shows who has what and when
- Reminders so nobody misses a pickup, practice, or appointment
- Color-coded events so each person sees their own schedule at a glance
- An interface plain enough for every age in the family to use
How we approached it
We designed the app around real family routines instead of starting from a generic calendar. We kept the screens simple so adding an event never feels like a chore, and we tested early versions with everyday use to find the rough edges. We refined the design until the whole family reached for it without thinking.
The outcome
The family now has one place everyone trusts instead of scattered texts and paper notes. Plans are easier to make, fewer things slip, and the household runs with less back-and-forth. The app fits the way this family actually lives, because it was built for them from the ground up.
What powers it
- A shared calendar that syncs across every phone in the family
- A design built around real family routines
- Reminders that arrive before each event
- Color coding so each person finds their own plans fast
- An interface simple enough for every age to use
- A built-from-scratch foundation that fits the household
